Kannapolis Cruise-In 10-8-11

Bobby Bonds has lived in the Concord area all of his life.   So I figured he knew the best way to get from the Auto Barn to Kannapolis.  We were there in no time for the second last Kannapolis Cruise-In of this year.  This has to be one of the best cruise-in locations anywhere.  It is in a tree lined downtown area with a center island surrounded by interesting buildings.  Shade is always welcome at cruise-in’s and the center island makes a great place to actually cruise around in your car.  And, best of all, Batman was there.

A very unusual car was this Austin Healy 100LM.   Owned by the same man for many years, he used to race it.  The classic lines and interior along with such racing touches as the leather hood strap made for an interesting car.

Another car not normally seen at cruise-in’s was this Cord.  Cord’s were manufactured in Auburn, Indiana along with Auburn and Duesenburg.  If you are ever in northern Indiana, the Auburn museum is well worth a visit.  Besides the excellent cars on display, the art deco showroom is a work of art.  They have an annual parade every Labor Day weekend that is spectacular.  Where else can you see Deusie’s driving down tree lined streets?

Another rare Indiana made car was this Studebaker with a rumble seat.  Great color combination and eye appeal.

Ford’s were well represented with these mid 50’s cars.

Not to be outdone were these Mercury’s.  Hard to beat these cars as classic cruisers.

2nd gen Camaro’s were out in force.

Our Rockwell group was well represented.

It’s hard to beat a bunch of ’50’s Chevy convertibles.  Great lines and great interiors.

I reallly liked this ’56 Pontiac convertible.  Long, low and sleek, it looked good standing still but was a vision when moving.

Check out the plumbing for the turbo on this ’68 Camaro.  Very serious car.

And what car show would be complete without a small block Chevy John Deere tractor.
